Key Roles:
- Conduct physical laboratory tests on given solid and liquid samples to provide data for process control, product blending & certification and for the optimization of refinery process units.
- Carry out verification/witness testing under referee conditions on the samples where results are subject of quality or any other customer dispute.
- Check all equipment prior to use to ensure it is fit for purpose. Maintain all laboratory equipment in a clean state before and after use and ready for the next analysis. Report all equipment faults promptly to Shift Supervisor to support continuous equipment availability.
- Use appropriate instruments to assess the physical properties of refinery process and finished products to achieve accuracy in testing.
- Maintain the required Laboratory test data books and other records to ensure compliance with the Laboratory’s Quality System requirements.
- Enter data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) on received samples and test results to ensure timely availability of data to Laboratory customers.
- Participate in the Refinery Fire Squad team to provide operational cover in case of fire or any other emergency, after completing required safety training.
Knowledge Skills and Experience:
- Minimum Diploma in Chemistry or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Lab Technician in the petroleum laboratory.
- Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo.
- Good communication skills in English language.
- Working knowledge of internet and MS Office Applications.
- Ability to work safely in a laboratory environment, adhering to all documented safety requirements and to report potentially unsafe situations.
- Have adequate physical fitness to be a part of the refinery fire squad team.
